Rio Ferdinand: What is different about Arsenal this season

The Manchester United legend praises Arsenal's plan B

Rio Ferdinand believes Arsenal are a better side with a plan B this season.

The Gunners managed to rescue a point at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon after Olivier Giroud came off the bench and scored a late equaliser to secure a 1-1 draw.

Arsene Wenger turned to the France international with 17 minutes remaining after Spain international Juan Mata made the breakthrough with a composed finish past Petr Cech.

Giroud has scored three goals after coming off the bench in the 2016-17 Premier League season so far after failing to start a top-flight game in the current campaign.

Former Manchester United defender Ferdinand delivered his verdict on Arsenal’s plan B following Saturday afternoon’s 1-1 draw at Old Trafford.

“What they have now is a Plan B. They’re in to this tippy-tappy football – getting the ball into Ozil and Sanchez doing his bits, with other people running off and doing their bit,” Ferdinand told BT Sport.

“But they can go their and throw Giroud on. How many times this season has he come and scored goals?”

Arsenal are in fourth place in the Premier League table and two points behind leaders Liverpool.

The north London side finished in the runners-up spot last season but 10 points adrift of champions Leicester City.
