Ronald Koeman: I want to sign this ‘interesting’ Man United player
Ronald Koeman expresses his interest in Manchester United winger Memphis Depay
Everton manager Ronald Koeman says he is interested in signing Manchester United outcast Memphis Depay.
The Netherlands international has struggled to make an impression under new Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho.
The Red Devils signed Depay in a £25m deal from Eredivisie champions PSV Eindhoven ahead of interest from their bitter rivals Liverpool in the 2015 summer transfer window.
However, the Dutch winger has failed to replicate his PSV performances in a Red Devils shirt despite being recruited by his former national team manager Louis van Gaal.
Depay has played 20 minutes in the 2016-17 Premier League campaign in what has been a difficult season for the Netherlands international.
However, his compatriot Koeman, who was appointed as Everton boss in the summer, has declared his interest in the 22-year-old attacking midfielder.
“I would like to have him,” Koeman told Fox Sports Netherlands – as quoted by Sky Sports.
“I think he is an interesting player. He has great individual qualities. He just needs to play games.”
Depay, who was handed the number seven shirt at Old Trafford, has a contract with Manchester United until 2019.
The Toffees lost 5-0 to Premier League title contenders Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in their last game before the international break.
