Roy Keane: I was wrong about this Tottenham player
The former Manchester United captain admits initially he wasn't sure about Hugo Lloris
Roy Keane says Hugo Lloris is the real deal after revealing his previous skepticism of the hype surrounding the Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper.
The France goalkeeper did his utmost to deny Monaco on Tuesday night as the Spurs captain stopped a penalty and made a staggering nine saves in the Principality.
However, Tottenham lost 2-1 to the Ligue side despite Harry Kane’s 52nd strike which extended his goal-scoring run to three games in all competitions.
Lloris has established himself as a key player under Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino over the past couple of seasons.
While the former Manchester United captain admitted that he had his doubts about Lloris before Tuesday night’s clash, Keane acknowledged that he has been forced to revise his opinion on the France international.
“I was never sure about him. To be honest, I’m not a big fan of goalkeepers anyway,” Keane told ITV Sport.
“This guy is the real deal. I take my hat off to him for that. It’s one of the best saves I have ever seen.”
Tottenham are in fifth place in the Premier League table and four points behind current leaders Chelsea in the title race.
Spurs will make the short trip to west London to face Antonio Conte’s side at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening.
