Ryan Giggs: What Jose Mourinho and Man United are lacking
The former Manchester United midfielder says Jose Mourinho's side are lacking consistency
Ryan Giggs says Manchester United are lacking consistency under Jose Mourinho.
The Red Devils looked to be heading for successive Premier League victories after Ander Herrera and Juan Mata combined in the 68th minute and the Spanish midfielder placed a finish past his former Chelsea team-mate Petr Cech.
However, Arsene Wenger brought on Olivier Giroud with 17 minutes remaining at Old Trafford and the France striker levelled thanks to a powerful header from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s cross.
The 20-time English champions have only beaten Swansea City in their last five Premier League games to leave Mourinho’s side off the pace in the title race.
Manchester United are eight points adrift of leaders Liverpool and the Red Devils are six points behinds fourth-placed Arsenal after 12 Premier League games.
While Giggs was impressed with the performance of Mourinho’s players on Saturday, the former Manchester United assistant manager believes the current side are lacking consistency.
“I’m looking at that team and I’m quite happy with it,” Giggs told Sky Sports.
“The midfield three and the front three, I’m happy with. Now, we’ve got injuries at the back and it was a makeshift back four. But there wasn’t one United player who played badly and there wasn’t one Arsenal player who played well.
“So you can’t say that it was the team that Jose picked today. United are lacking consistency and Jose is constantly having the juggle the team.”
Manchester United will host West Ham United in their next Premier League game on Sunday.
