Sir Geoff Hurst delivers verdict on Man United star Wayne Rooney
Sir Geoff Hurst talks up Wayne Rooney's importance to the English national team
Sir Geoff Hurst has told Jose Mourinho that Wayne Rooney still has a big part to play for both Manchester United and England.
The striker’s situation at United has been a source of much debate this season after a slow start to the campaign for the Red Devils.
Rooney has struggled to hold down a regular starting spot for both club and country this season, although he did feature from the start in England’s 3-0 win over Scotland on Friday night.
The forward has only managed to score two goals in all competitions for Manchester United so far this season and there has been speculation that he could be set to leave Old Trafford in search of regular first-team football.
However, England legend Hurst feels that Rooney is a proven top-quality player and stressed his importance to the national team.
Hurst is quoted as saying by The Daily Star: “Wayne has had an unbelievable career for both club and country.
“He broke the goalscoring record for England and no doubt he will break the caps record, too.
“Wayne’s experience is invaluable to the team, especially when you consider he has been playing top-flight football since he was 18 years old.”
