Stan Collymore delivers blunt verdict on possible Liverpool transfer under Jurgen Klopp
Stan Collymore believes Jurgen Klopp should keep Daniel Sturridge and forget about signing new Liverpool striker
Stan Collymore says Jurgen Klopp would be crazy to sell Daniel Sturridge to accommodate a new centre-forward signing in the January transfer window.
The Reds boss is thought to be keen to bolster his attacking options despite Liverpool scoring 30 times in 11 Premier League games in the 2016-17 season so far.
Klopp has been using Roberto Firmino in a false nine role in his Liverpool team and the Brazilian has scored five times in the English top flight this term.
Sturridge, on the other hand, has failed to find the net in eight Premier League appearances in the 2016-17 campaign so far.
Former Liverpool striker Collymore has warned Klopp that it would be foolish to sell Sturridge in order to sign a new striker given the England man’s proven record in the Premier League.
“The Reds’ boss is looking to add a new No.9 to his squad in January, but it would be borderline lunacy for him to let Sturridge leave when the transfer window opens,” Collymore wrote in his Daily Mirror column.
“Even if he only gets eight or nine games, Sturridge could still get three goals which could be the difference between Liverpool doing something or not this season.”
Liverpool are sitting at the top of the Premier League table after 11 games.
The Merseyside outfit are a point ahead of second-placed Chelsea.
Klopp’s side will make the trip to Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday.
