Steve McManaman has his say on Arsenal’s Premier League title hopes

Steve McManaman is backing Arsenal to challenge for the Premier League title this season

Steve McManaman says that it would be foolish to rule Arsenal out of the Premier League title race this season.

The Gunners have not won the Premier League title since their famous unbeaten triumph in the 2003-04 season and have been criticised for falling short under Arsene Wenger in recent years.

The north London side are looking to go one step further this season and lift the top-flight crown after their second-placed finish in the top flight last term.

Wenger has been criticised for failing to guide Arsenal to the Premier League title since the club’s move from Highbury to The Emirates.

However, former Liverpool star McManaman feels that Arsenal will be up there challenging for the tile come the end of the season.

Speaking on BT Sport’s Premier League Tonight show, McManaman said of Arsenal: “I would always put Arsenal up there [in the title race].

“Not necessarily in the Champions League, but in the league, the fact that they’ve always been in and around that area for a number of years – they finished second last year – I’d certainly put them in the mix.”
