Thibaut Courtois names Arsenal star as the best guy in football
The Chelsea number one speaks of his respect for Arsenal rival Petr Cech
Thibaut Courtois has spoken of his profound respect for Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech.
The Belgium international usurped the shot stopper as Chelsea’s number one when Courtois returned from a three-season loan at Atletico Madrid in 2014.
Cech played as Courtois’ back-up throughout Chelsea’s title-winning 2014-15 Premier League campaign as the Belgian established himself as one of the division’s best goalkeepers.
The Czech Republic international opted to move to Chelsea’s bitter rivals Arsenal in an £11m deal in the 2015 summer transfer window.
The 34-year-old has already become a vital member of Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal squad as the Gunners look to end a 12-year title drought.
And Courtois hailed Cech as the Chelsea number one discussed his Premier League rivals on Belgian television show Le Tribune on Monday evening.
“I have a lot of respect for him. He’s the best guy I’ve met in football at all levels,” Courtois is quoted as saying by Metro.
“Upon my arrival in Chelsea, he always helped and advised.”
Chelsea are in second place in the Premier League table and a point behind leaders Liverpool after 11 top-flight games.
