Thierry Henry: Why Arsenal need Olivier Giroud
The Arsenal legend says Olivier Giroud has a role to play under Arsene Wenger this season
Thierry Henry has explained why Arsenal need to keep Olivier Giroud.
The France international came off the bench to net Arsenal’s equaliser in a 1-1 draw with Manchester United in the Premier League on Saturday afternooon.
The Red Devils appeared to be coasting towards three points after Spain international Juan Mata broke the deadlock in the 69th minute at Old Trafford.
However, Arsene Wenger brought on Giroud with 17 minutes remaining and the France striker headed a 90th-minute equaliser to rescue a point for the north London side.
The 30-year-old hasn’t started a Premier League game this season but has netted three times in six substitute appearances in the English top flight.
Former Arsenal striker Henry explained why Giroud has a vital role to play in the Gunners’ title challenge this season.
“We talked about it the other day when he came on against Sunderland,” Henry told Sky Sports.
“I don’t know whether he’s going to like that type of job but you need a guy who’s going to come from the bench and spark something.”
The Gunners are in fourth place and three points behind leaders Chelsea after the Blues were 1-0 winners at Middlesbrough on Sunday.
Arsenal will host Ligue 1 holders Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night.
