Tottenham legend makes bold claim about Chelsea under Antonio Conte
Garth Crooks says Chelsea are the best team in the Premier League on current form
Chelsea are the best team in the Premier League at the moment, according to Garth Crooks.
The Blues eased to a 1-0 win against promoted side Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium on Sunday evening thanks to Diego Costa’s first-half winner.
Chelsea’s narrow victory hoisted Antonio Conte’s side above Liverpool and into top spot in the Premier League table after 12 games in the 2016-17 season so far.
The west London side have won their last six Premier League games against Hull City, Leicester City, Manchester United, Southampton, Everton and Middlesbrough.
Former Tottenham legend Crooks admitted that he has been very impressed with Chelsea’s transformation under Conte in recent weeks.
“Chelsea are the best team in the league at the moment, with steel and flair in equal proportions,” Crooks told BBC Sport.
“The late, great Howard Kendall once said that winning trophies was like sipping champagne; once you’ve had a taste, you keep going back for more.
“Antonio Conte has enjoyed a sip or two of success over the years. By the look of his new-look Chelsea team’s recent performances, both he and they are developing a taste for more in the months ahead.”
Chelsea have scored 17 goals and have kept six clean sheets in their last six Premier League victories.
The Blues will host their bitter London rivals Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge in their next Premier League game on Saturday.
The west London side finished in tenth place in the Premier League table last season under Jose Mourinho and Guus Hiddink.
