Tottenham legend makes world-class claim about Arsenal striker
The Tottenham legend is a big admirer of Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez
Garth Crooks says Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez is one of the Premier League’s world-class players.
The Chile international was in a rich vein of form on Sunday afternoon after the South American scored twice in a 3-1 win against Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth side at The Emirates.
Sanchez capitalised on a defensive error to break the deadlock in the 12th minute in north London before the former Barcelona man sealed three points with a close-range finish in added time.
The 28-year-old has scored eight times and has made three assists in 13 Premier League appearances this season to keep Arsenal’s title challenge on track.
Former Tottenham forward Crooks was quick to lavish praise on Sanchez after the Chilean forward’s dominant performance against the Cherries.
“There has been some debate recently about how many world-class players we have in the Premier League at the moment. Well, I for one believe that Alexis Sanchez is one of them,” Crooks told BBC Sport.
“It was Sanchez who punished Bournemouth’s Steve Cook for what appeared to be a moment of stage fright – one which ended in the most appalling backpass. The Chilean then finished off the Cherries with a simple tap-in, but that was after he had run Bournemouth ragged.”
Arsenal will host Southampton in their EFL Cup quarter-final at The Emirates on Wednesday night.
The Gunners are in fourth place in the Premier League table and three points adrift of leaders Chelsea.
Wenger’s side will make the trip to West Ham in their next Premier League game next Saturday.
