Ian Wright states prediction for Tottenham v Chelsea
The former Arsenal striker delivers his verdict on the London derby between Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur
Ian Wright is backing Chelsea to ease to victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening.
The Lilywhites will make the short trip across London to the Premier League leaders at Stamford Bridge fresh from their Champions League exit.
Tottenham crashed out of Europe’s premier club competition after a 2-1 loss to Ligue 1 side Monaco in their penultimate group game on Tuesday night.
Chelsea, on the other hand, have been recuperating from their 1-0 win against Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium last weekend.
The west London side hoisted themselves above Liverpool and into top spot thanks to their close-fought win at Middlesbrough.
Chelsea haven’t lost to Tottenham at Stamford Bridge since 1990 and the Blues ended their rivals’ title bid in west London last season.
Speaking to The Sun Goals podcast ahead of Saturday’s London derby, Wright tipped Chelsea to make it seven successive Premier League victories.
“I am going to go for a Chelsea win. They had the best defensive record last season. Toby Alderweireld is missing but you do feel you can get at them at the minute,” Wright said.
“Given Chelsea’s form, Tottenham are really going to have to stand up. If Tottenham can get something, it’ll be a huge boost. But I fancy Chelsea to beat them.”
