Watch: Per Mertesacker provides latest Arsenal injury update ahead of Man United clash
The Arsenal captain posts a video of his rehabilitation from a severe knee injury
Per Mertesacker has revealed that he is working on his endurance levels ahead of Arsenal’s trip to Manchester United on Saturday afternoon.
The Germany centre-half hasn’t racked up a Premier League minute in the 2016-17 season after the towering defender suffered an injury in pre-season.
Mertesacker suffered a severe knee injury in Lens during Arsenal’s pre-season campaign to rule him out of the north London side’s Premier League opener against Liverpool.
Arsene Wenger signed Mertesacker’s compatriot Shkodran Mustafi in a £35m deal from La Liga side Valencia in the final weeks of the summer transfer window.
Mustafi has forged a promising centre-half partnership with France international Laurent Koscielny and the Gunners are unbeaten with the former Everton man in their defence.
With an uphill battle on his hands to force his way back into Wenger’s side, Mertesacker took to social media to post a clip of his 20k run on the treadmill.
