Wenger delivers latest update on Sanchez’s Arsenal contract situation

Arsene Wenger was quizzed about Alexis Sanchez's contract situation after Sunday's win over Bournemouth

Arsene Wenger has admitted that it is “important” for Arsenal to tie Alexis Sanchez down to a new contract.

The Chile international once again proved his worth to the north London side when he produced a man of the match display to help Wenger’s men beat Bournemouth 3-1 at The Emirates on Sunday afternoon in the Premier League.

Sanchez scored twice in a sparkling display for the north London side against the Cherries to allow the Gunners to keep pace with the Premier League leaders.

The 27-year-old’s current contract is due to expire in the summer of 2018 and the forward is believed to be in talks with the club about a new deal.

And Wenger admitted that it is very important for the north London side to tie Sanchez down to a new deal.

Speaking in an interview with Arsenal’s website after the game, Wenger said: “It is important. How important it is, I don’t know – we will not sort it tonight. We have some time in front of us.”

Asked by one reporter if Sanchez is adding an extra zero to his wage demands with every sparkling display, Wenger added: “Well, you like us to spend money, so you should be happy!”
