Zlatan Ibrahimovic delivers verdict on Man United’s start to the season
The Manchester United striker has admitted that Jose Mourinho;s side aren't where they should be
Zlatan Ibrahimovic insists Jose Mourinho’s squad is working hard to restore Manchester United to the pinnacle of English football.
The Swedish striker moved to the 20-time English champions on a free transfer from Ligue 1 holders Paris Saint-Germain in the summer transfer window.
Ibrahimovic was the second of Mourinho’s four summer signings as the Manchester United manager looked to overhaul Louis van Gaal’s squad.
The 35-year-old netted four times in his opening three games as a Red Devils player before the goals dried up during October.
However, the Ligue 1 winner took his tally to six Premier League goals thanks to his brace in a 3-1 win against Swansea City earlier this month.
Manchester United are in sixth place in the Premier League table and nine points adrift of leaders Chelsea after 12 Premier League games.
But Ibrahimovic was keen to stress that the Manchester United players are working hard to improve the club’s fortunes.
“I think I mean, if you look at the last four or five years the team hasn’t been where it is supposed to be, where the people consider it to be,” said Ibrahimovic, who was speaking exclusively to BT Sport.
“And we are working hard for it and I think there is still a bit to compare with the biggest teams out there that are playing the Champions League, but with the right people behind it and the right people in place the potential is there now so just keep working hard and bring out the results we need.”
Manchester United will host Slaven Bilic’s struggling West Ham United side in their next Premier League game.
