Alan Shearer credits Jurgen Klopp with transforming Liverpool midfielder
The Premier League legend was impressed with Adam Lallana's performance in Liverpool's 3-0 win at Middlesbrough
Alan Shearer believes Jurgen Klopp is responsible for Adam Lallana’s transformation at Liverpool.
The 28-year-old attacking midfielder produced a devastating performance at the Riverside Stadium on Wednesday night thanks to two goals and an assist in a 3-0 win over Middlesbrough.
Lallana broke the deadlock in the 29th minute with a close-range header following Nathaniel Clyne’s superb cross which found the former Southampton man at the far post.
The England international turned provider in the second half after his deft pass teed up Divock Origi as the centre-forward scored in his fifth successive game in all competitions.
Lallana sealed three points with his second goal and his sixth of the 2016-17 season after he finished off a sweeping counter-attacking move from the visitors.
In his post-match interview with BBC Sport, the £25m signing played down Klopp’s role in his resurgence at the Anfield club over the past 12 months or so.
However, former Newcastle striker Shearer believes the Liverpool boss does deserve credit.
“Adam Lallana was the story tonight. They had to win after recent results. Lallana has six goals and six assists this season,” Shearer told Match of the Day on Wednesday night.
“He said that he doesn’t think the manager has changed his game too much but I think he has. He has certainly given him license to roam and to get forward. He is breaking his neck to get into the six-yard box… He was absolutely brilliant. He has been for large parts of the season.”
