Alan Smith warns Jose Mourinho: Don’t sell this Man United midfielder
The Arsenal legend believes Morgan Schneiderlin does have a future at Manchester United
Alan Smith believes Morgan Schneiderlin has a role to play at Manchester United under Jose Mourinho.
The France international hasn’t made an appearance in the Red Devils side since a five-minute cameo in their 1-1 draw with Arsenal at Old Trafford in the Premier League in November.
Schneiderlin has only made three substitute appearances in the Premier League this season, although the 27-year-old midfielder has made a further four appearances in cup competitions.
The former Southampton man has been linked with a move to Everton and West Bromwich Albion ahead of the January transfer window.
However, ex-Arsenal striker Smith believes Schneiderlin could be a good player to have in Mourinho’s squad to provide cover for 35-year-old Carrick.
“During his time at Southampton, he was touted as one of the best holding midfielders in the country,” Smith told Sky Sports News HQ.
“He could get forward and get the odd goal as well. He has gone backwards at Manchester United. If his manager doesn’t fancy him, he’ll be desperate for a move. If I was Mourinho, I wouldn’t let go of someone like that lightly. Michael Carrick is 35.”
Manchester United finished in fifth place in the Premier League table last season after the defensive midfielder moved to Old Trafford in a £25m deal from Southampton in the 2015 summer transfer window.
The Red Devils signed four players in the summer following Mourinho’s appointment as their new manager.
