Ander Herrera: Man United have best teenage talent in world football
The Manchester United midfielder hails Marcus Rashford as one of the best teenagers in the world
Ander Herrera believes Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford is one of the most-exciting talents in world football.
The England striker has become one of Manchester United’s most-important players since breaking into the first-team under Jose Mourinho’s predecessor Louis van Gaal last term.
Rashford finished the 2015-16 season with a return of eight goals in 18 games in all competitions to establish himself as one of the Premier League’s most-exciting talents.
The 19-year-old has struggled to have such a dramatic impact under new manager Mourinho as the Red Devils boss continues to stick with Zlatan Ibrahimovic in a centre-forward role.
However, Manchester United midfielder Herrera has talked up his talented teenage team-mate as Rashford looks to establish himself as a first-team regular under Mourinho.
“We have to be patient with Marcus. He is maybe the best talent under 20 years old in the world so he is giving us a lot,” Herrera is quoted as saying by Metro.
“But we can’t ask him to score in every game and do what he did in his first season when he did what he did in his first five matches I think – something like that.
“Now he is playing left so we have to be patient with him.
“He gives us a lot of things and the most important thing for me is his defence, the way he reacts when we don’t have the ball so we are very happy with him.”
Manchester United signed four players in the summer transfer window after Mourinho was appointed as Van Gaal’s successor following a fifth-place finish last term.
The Red Devils won the FA Cup last term thanks to a 2-1 extra-time victory over Crystal Palace at Wembley.
