Antonio Conte reacts to Cesc Fabregas’ display in Chelsea’s win at Sunderland
Cesc Fabregas earned special praise from Antonio Conte after Chelsea's 1-0 win at Sunderland
Antonio Conte singled out Cesc Fabregas for special praise after the Spaniard fired Chelsea to victory over Sunderland on Wednesday night.
The Spanish midfielder hit the only goal of the game in the 40th minute at the Stadium of Light as Chelsea made it 10 wins in a row in the Premier League to move six points clear at the top of the table.
Fabregas has had to settle for a spot on the bench in recent weeks following Conte’s appointment as the club’s new manager over the summer.
However, the Spaniard has been producing some top displays for Conte’s men when called upon.
The 29-year-old featured from the start at the Stadium of Light and Conte was delighted with the way Fabregas took his opportunity to help Chelsea continue their winning run.
Speaking at his post-match news conference, Conte said: “I am very happy for him. Cesc is a great example for the other players because this was only the third game he has started [in the league].
“This month he has a fantastic attitude, great behaviour, great commitment.
“I have four midfielders and I have to try to make the best choice before every game, and consider also when we have to face a physical opponent and when we need more technique.
“His answer was very good today and also against Manchester City.”
Chelsea now turn their attentions towards their Premier League trip to Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon in what will be their final game before Christmas.
