Antonio Conte reacts to Cesc Fabregas’ display in Man City v Chelsea
Antonio Conte comments on Cesc Fabregas' performance in Chelsea's clash with Manchester City on Saturday
Antonio Conte heaped praise on Cesc Fabregas for his contribution after Chelsea’s 3-1 win at Manchester City on Saturday lunchtime.
With Nemanja Matic injured, Fabregas was drafted in to the starting line-up at The Etihad, despite not featuring much for Chelsea at all this season.
Fabregas set up Diego Costa’s goal with a wonderful long pass as Chelsea game from a goal down to beat the Citizens 3-1 thanks to efforts from Willian and Eden Hazard.
The Spanish midfielder has been forced to watch from the sidelines for much of the season and Fabregas had not started a game since the 3-0 loss to Arsenal earlier in the campaign.
However, Conte was delighted with the way Fabregas quickly adapted to what was needed after being recalled to the team.
Speaking at his post-match news conference, Conte said: “I’m pleased for Cesc above all because this game wasn’t easy for him.
“The last game he played for Chelsea in the line-up was against Arsenal, and then he had an injury. He recovered and I’m very happy for his performance.
“He must continue to improve. For me to have more options is good. It’s important to have the whole squad available.”
