Antonio Conte reveals transfer plans for Chelsea midfielders
Antonio Conte insists that he wants to keep Cesc Fabregas at Chelsea beyond the January transfer window
Antonio Conte has insisted that he wants to keep Cesc Fabregas at Chelsea and that the midfielder remains part of his plans.
The Spaniard has struggled to hold down a regular starting spot in the Blues first team since the arrival of Antonio Conte as the club’s new manager in the summer.
The former Arsenal captain was restored to the starting line-up and helped Chelsea seal a 3-1 win over Manchester City in the Premier League at The Etihad last weekend.
Fabregas’s lack of playing time this season is likely to lead to suggestions that he could leave the club in the January transfer window.
However, Conte was quick to insist that he intends to keep Fabregas at Stamford Bridge.
Conte is quoted as saying by The Daily Express: “As I have said in a previous press conference, Cesc is a good player and is part of my squad.”
The Chelsea boss was also quizzed about the future of midfielder John Obi Mikel, whose contract at Stamford Bridge expires in the summer.
He added: “The situation is simple; he’s in the squad and is staying with us and we know that at the end of the season probably his contract is going to expire.
“I don’t know what will happen. Now he’s part of this squad. If I have to talk about a contract for players I prefer to talk with my club.”
