Arsenal legend believes this Man United signing holds key to top-four bid
Ray Parlour believes Henrikh Mkhitaryan holds the key to Manchester United's top-four bid
Henrikh Mkhitaryan can help to inspire Manchester United to a top-four finish in the Premier League this season, according to Ray Parlour.
The Red Devils signed the Armenia international in a £30m deal from Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund in the summer transfer window.
Mkhitaryan has endured a slow start to life at the 20-time English champions but there have been promising signs of progress in recent weeks.
The 27-year-old attacking midfielder scored his first Manchester United goal in a 2-0 win against Zorya Luhansk in the Europa League earlier this month.
The former Shakhtar Donetsk playmaker netted his first Premier League strike in Sunday afternoon’s 1-0 win against title rivals Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford.
Speaking to Sky Sports News HQ, ex Arsenal midfielder Parlour insisted that he isn’t surprised to see Mkhitaryan come into his own at Old Trafford.
“Mkhitaryan scored the goal. At the start of the season, I said he’d be a real good signing. He hasn’t featured too often for Manchester United,” Parlour said.
“In recent weeks, he has shown how good he is. If they can keep him in the side and get the best out of him as well, Jose knows that he has a good squad of players there and they will be hoping they can get a real good run going and threaten that top four.”
Manchester United finished in fifth place in the Premier League table last season under Louis van Gaal.
The Red Devils did finish the campaign with some silverware after winning the FA Cup.
