Arsenal legend: Harry Kane’s new deal will feel like new Tottenham signing
Martin Keown delivers his verdict on Harry Kane's new Tottenham deal
Martin Keown believes Harry Kane’s commitment to Tottenham Hotspur will feel like a new signing for the north London club.
The England striker put pen to paper on a new contract that will keep him at White Hart Lane until 2022 on Thursday afternoon.
Kane is reported to be Tottenham’s best-paid player after signing a contract rumoured to be worth £100,000 a week.
The 23-year-old has proven a key member of Mauricio Pochettino’s squad after he scored 25 times in 37 games in the 2015-16 Premier League campaign.
The Tottenham star has even managed to find the net five times in eight Premier League fixtures this term ahead of the visit of Swansea City on Saturday afternoon despite his injury problems..
The Lilywhites have only managed to win one of their last six Premier League games after a disappointing run of form in October and November.
However, former Arsenal defender Keown expects Kane’s new deal to give the White Hart Lane outfit a huge lift.
“Very much so — this will almost feel like a new signing for Tottenham. It is known that they are a little bit behind some of their top-four contenders in terms of what they pay players,” Keown told The Daily Mail.
“They have had to take a decision — if they don’t secure the players they have then other clubs will come swooping. Tottenham are building — both on and off the pitch — and they can’t afford at this stage to lose their top talents.
“Dele Alli and Eric Dier signed new deals not long ago and Kane signing is really good news. What is healthy is that Tottenham have shown they are prepared to reward players who deserve it.
“Tottenham have looked after one of their own. It’s always great to see someone do well who has made it through the ranks. You don’t want to see a player who has just taken off go and play for someone else.
“Now Tottenham can enjoy the best years of Harry Kane’s career.”
