Arsenal legend: How Chelsea will cope without Diego Costa and N’Golo Kante
Martin Keown believes it could be a good time for Diego Costa and N'Golo Kante to miss Chelsea's home clash against Bournemouth
Martin Keown believes it is a good time for Chelsea duo Diego Costa and N’Golo Kante to take a break ahead of their home clash against Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues were 1-0 winners against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park last weekend after Costa’s first-half strike sealed three points against the London side.
However, Chelsea’s win came at a cost after Costa picked up his fifth booking of the season to rule him out of their next Premier League fixture against the Cherries.
Antonio Conte will also be without France international Kante after the former Leicester City midfielder earned his fifth yellow card of the 2016-17 Premier League campaign.
Chelsea have won their last 11 Premier League games to leave them six points clear of second-placed Liverpool at the top of the table.
Former Arsenal defender Keown is confident that Michy Batshuayi and Cesc Fabregas can fill the void left by Costa and Kante in the Chelsea side.
“It’s a game Chelsea know they can win. Costa has been so controlled and professional recently but his booking at Palace means he gets a rest and Christmas off which he can enjoy at home,” Keown told The Daily Mail.
“Last week we were saying that Costa and Kante were Chelsea’s most important players but maybe this is a good game for them to be suspended. The situation is not too terrible for Chelsea — they have Michy Batshuayi and Cesc Fabregas to come back in.”
Chelsea finished in tenth place in the Premier League table.
