Arsenal legend issues warning to Man United in top-four race

Alan Smith says Manchester United have plenty of work to do if they want to finish in the top three this season

Alan Smith has warned Manchester United that they have their work cut out if they want to finish in the Premier League’s top three this season.

The Red Devils are currently getting used to life under new manager Jose Mourinho following the Portuguese coach’s appointment at Old Trafford back in May.

It has been something of mixed start to life for Mourinho at Old Trafford, with the Red Devils struggling to find consistent form in the Premier League.

However, Manchester United have shown plenty of promise in recent weeks to suggest that they are capable of climbing up the Premier League table as the season continues.

Nevertheless, former Arsenal star Smith feels that the Red Devils will have to step their game up considerably if they want to have any hope of finishing in the top three this season.

Asked if Manchester United could finish in the top three this season, Smith told Sky Sports News HQ: “There is a lot of competition… They’ve got a lot of work to do to achieve that.”
