Arsenal legend: Jose Mourinho has changed his mind about this Man United star
Alan Smith says Jose Mourinho has been forced to change his mind about Michael Carrick this season
Jose Mourinho has been forced to change his mind about Michael Carrick for Manchester United this season, according to Alan Smith.
The veteran midfielder has been a regular fixture in the starting line-up for the Red Devils in recent weeks after initially struggling to get into Mourinho’s side.
Carrick appears to be forging a good understanding with Paul Pogba and Ander Herrera in the heart of Manchester United’s midfield this term.
And former Arsenal man Smith feels that Mourinho was reluctant to use Carrick on a regular basis, before having to change his mind about the England international.
Speaking to Sky Sports News HQ last week, Smith said: “I thought from the start that he would have been the perfect player for Jose Mourinho.
“He is a good player and a good pro. He is a very intelligent player.
“He wasn’t picking him because he said he couldn’t play two games a week but he wasn’t even picking him for two games a week. Now he is.”
Manchester United are looking to finish in the top four of the Premier League under new boss Mourinho this season.
The Red Devils ended up fifth and with the FA Cup last season under former boss Louis van Gaal, before he was sacked and replaced by Mourinho back in May.
