Arsenal legend makes claim about Tottenham and the Europa League

Lee Dixon delivers his verdict on Tottenham's hopes of Europa League glory this season

Lee Dixon has challenged Tottenham to go on and win the Europa League this season.

The north London club were parachuted down into Europe’s second tier club competition after they were knocked out of the Champions League at the group stage.

Their third-placed finish means that Tottenham will now compete in the last 32 of the Europa League as they bid to enjoy a strong run in the competitions.

Spurs will know that winning the competition this season will book their place in the Champions League next term regardless of whether they finish in the top four in the Premier League.

And Arsenal legend Dixon feels that Spurs should concentrate on trying to win the competition this term.

Speaking to ITV Sport last week, Dixon said: “Go and win the competition.

“You set out to win three competitions, they’ve been knocked out of one and have got back into another one. Why not go and win that?

“There’s not that much to go for when you start the season, so go for one of them at least.”

Tottenham are currently gearing up for their crunch Premier League clash against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
