Arsenal legend names Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s best position for Man United
Ian Wright believes Jose Mourinho needs to play Henrikh Mkhitaryan as a number 10 in his Manchester United side
Ian Wright believes Jose Mourinho should play Henrikh Mkhitaryan as a number 10 in his Manchester United side.
The Armenia international endured a slow start to his Old Trafford career after the playmaker completed a £30m move to the Red Devils from Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund in the summer transfer window.
However, the 27-year-old made one Premier League start in the opening four months of the campaign after a disappointing debut in a 2-1 loss to Manchester City at Old Trafford in September.
The former Shakthar Donetsk midfielder impressed in Manchester United’s 4-1 victories over Feyenoord and West Ham United in the Europa League and the League Cup in recent weeks.
And Mourinho handed Mkhitaryan just his second Premier League start in a 1-1 draw with Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon.
Former Arsenal striker Wright believes Mourinho needs to play Mkhitaryan as a number 10 to get the best out of his summer signing.
“Henrikh Mkhitaryan made a difference. He just has to keep playing him now,” Wright told BBC Radio Five Live’s 606 show.
Wright added: “I would play Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the number 10 role. That’s where he did all his great stuff for Borussia Dortmund. As a youngster, he went to Brazil and learnt all his real skills and No10 kind of play. I would play him there. That’s where he will do his best work for Manchester United.”
