Arsenal legend tells Arsene Wenger what to say to Alexis Sanchez about China offer
Lee Dixon has some advice for his former Arsenal manager over Chinese interest in Alexis Sanchez
Lee Dixon has offered Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger some advice on how to handle the Alexis Sanchez situation amid reported interest from China.
The Gunners boss refused to deny that there had interest from the Far East in the Chile international after it was claimed that an unnamed Chinese Super League club is ready to offer Sanchez an eye-watering £400,000 a week in wages.
The South American is reportedly pocketing around £130,000 a week at the north London club amid ongoing contract negotiations with the Gunners over an improved contract.
Sanchez scored 11 times in his opening 14 Premier League games after a second-half hat-trick in Arsenal’s 5-1 victory over West Ham United at the London Stadium last weekend.
Speaking ahead of Arsenal’s home clash against Stoke City, Dixon urged Wenger to remind Sanchez that he is currently at the peak of his powers and should remain in the Premier League.
“The way you speak to Sanchez about that [China] is say ‘it’s China’. You’re still at the peak of your powers,” Dixon told ITV Sport.
“You do not want to be going anywhere other than the Premier League. He’s been in Spain, he’s now in the Premier League. He wants to stay. If it’s about money it’s disgusting. But it won’t be about money.”
Arsenal signed Sanchez in a £35m deal from La Liga side Barcelona in the 2014 summer transfer window.
The South American won the FA Cup in his first season at The Emirates.
