Arsenal legend: Tottenham have struggled without these two players

Ray Parlour delivers his verdict on Tottenham Hotspur this season

Tottenham Hotspur have stuttered in the Premier League this season in the absence of Toby Alderweireld and Harry Kane, according to Ray Parlour.

The north London side lost 1-0 to Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon following Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s first-half winner at Old Trafford.

Tottenham have suffered defeats by top-four rivals Chelsea and Manchester United in the 2016-17 Premier League campaign so far.

Mauricio Pochettino has been without Belgium centre-half Alderweireld and England international Kane for a large portion of the season due to injury.

Former Arsenal midfielder Parlour believes Tottenham’s injury problems explain their inconsistent form in the English top flight in recent months.

“This season Tottenham have had some key injuries. Alderweireld and Kane were out for long periods. It’s been a little bit stumbly in terms of the way they’ve played,” Parlour told Sky Sports News HQ.

“But they’ve got a very good squad. I love Dembele in midfield. He is a superb player. Alli on his day is a superb player.”

Tottenham finished in third place in the Premier League table last season after challenging Leicester City throughout most of the 2015-16 campaign.

Spurs signed five players in the summer transfer window following their third-place finish, including Victor Wanyama, Vincent Janssen and Moussa Sissoko.
