Arsenal legend: What’s changed about Man United under Jose Mourinho
Alan Smith has noticed a dramatic improvement at Manchester United in recent weeks
Alan Smith believes there are a number of factors that have led to Manchester United’s resurgence in the Premier League.
The Red Devils have recorded nine points from their last three Premier League fixtures thanks to victories over Tottenham Hotspur, Crystal Palace and West Bromwich Albion.
Jose Mourinho’s side have managed to position themselves just four points behind Arsenal in fourth place ahead of their home clash against Premier League strugglers Sunderland on Boxing Day.
Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo have established an unlikely partnership to help the Red Devils keep two clean sheets in their last three games, while Ibrahimovic has scored twice in his last three appearances.
Speaking to Sky Sports News HQ on Wednesday morning about Manchester United’s improvements in the Premier League, former Arsenal striker Smith attempted to explain what has changed about the Red Devils in recent weeks.
“When you look at the team, they have got quality players and we’ve almost forgotten about that during the struggles,” Smith said.
“There is a bit more consistency in defence. Phil Jones has come in next to Marcos Rojo.
“Ibrahimovic has started scoring again, which would have given everyone a lift and confidence just generally in the team and around the football club would have taken a hike.”
Manchester United finished in fifth place in the Premier League table last season which led to Louis van Gaal’s sacking.
