Arsenal signing makes admission about his form: I have to improve this
Shkodran Mustafi wants to improve his reading of the game as he gets used to life at Arsenal
Shkodran Mustafi has admitted that he knows that he must improve his reading of the game following his summer transfer to Arsenal.
The defender has earned plenty of praise for the swift way in which he has adapted to life in England following his move to Arsenal from Valencia back in August.
Mustafi had been a regular fixture in the Arsenal team throughout the season before he suffered a hamstring injury during the 3-1 win over Stoke City.
The Germany international is likely to be out of action until the new year but the 24-year-old is sure to be pleased with the solid start he has made to life at The Emirates.
However, Mustafi believes that he needs to work on his reading of the game as he continues to get used to playing alongside Laurent Koscielny in the heart of the Arsenal defence.
Speaking in an interview with Arsenal’s website, Mustafi said: “What I’m working hardest on is trying to improve my reading of the game.
“The main thing is reading situations, knowing “OK, the ball is now on the left, but with one, two or three passes it could come on the right – so how am I going to react?”
“Football is becoming so quick, you have less time to think. It’s all about decision-making and then even if you make a decision, you have to cope with if it’s a good one or a bad one.
“You don’t have that much time, so you have to be good at reading the game.”
