Arsenal signing responds to Arsene Wenger’s praise
Granit Xhaka is confident in his ability after a comfortable start at Arsenal
Granit Xhaka is confident in his ability to prove a success in the Premier League with Arsenal.
The Switzerland international completed a £33m move to the Gunners from Bundesliga outfit Borussia Monchengladbach in the summer transfer window.
The 24-year-old defensive midfielder has struggled to tie down a regular starting spot in Wenger’s side amid competition from Francis Coquelin and Mohamed Elneny.
Xhaka has scored one goal in 11 Premier League appearances so far, while the Swiss star has earned two bookings and one red card in the current campaign.
The Gunners midfielder has also found the net on one occasion in this season’s Champions League.
Xhaka believes there is much more to come from him after Wenger insisted that the Arsenal midfielder is “on the way up”.
“Actually, it’s normal when you come to a new club and country [that it takes time],” Xhaka told Arsenal’s website.
“You need to get used to the language, the philosophy of the team, the squad, the coach. But I do feel very happy and comfortable here, and I know the potential I have.
“In football you just have to develop yourself.”
Arsenal are in second place in the Premier League table and three points behind leaders Chelsea after 14 games.
The Gunners will host West Brom in their next top-flight fixture at The Emirates on Sunday evening.
