Mark Lawrenson states prediction for Arsenal v West Brom

Mark Lawrenson is backing Arsenal to return to winning ways against West Brom at the Emirates Stadium on Boxing Day.

Arsenal have endured a tough week or so in the Premier League after successive top-flight defeats to leave their title challenge in tatters.

The Gunners succumbed to their second defeat of the Premier League season after Arsenal lost 2-1 to Everton despite Alexis Sanchez’s free-kick opener.

The north London side lost further ground on their title rivals after Manchester City came from behind to ease to a 2-1 victory over Arsene Wenger’s side.

Arsenal are nine points adrift of leaders Chelsea after their back-to-back Premier League defeats.

Former Liverpool and Republic of Ireland defender Lawrenson is tipping the north London outfit to secure three points against the Baggies at The Emirates on Boxing Day.

“I do think they will return to winning ways here – although they might have to grind out a win against West Brom, which is not something they have done too often this season,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport.

“The Baggies were well beaten by Manchester United last weekend but they made life difficult for Chelsea when they lost at Stamford Bridge earlier in December and will be looking for a repeat of that performance, and a better result.”

Arsenal finished in second place in the Premier League table last season but 10 points behind champions Leicester City.
