Arsene Wenger delivers verdict on Olivier Giroud in Arsenal’s 1-0 win over West Brom

Arsene Wenger has praised Olivier Giroud for his reaction to an interesting period in his Arsenal career

Arsene Wenger has praised Olivier Giroud for coming through an interesting period after the striker scored Arsenal’s winner in a 1-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion at the Emirates Stadium on Boxing Day.

Arsenal were looking to end a run of two consecutive Premier League defeats following a series of disappointing performances from the north London side in the title race.

Giroud didn’t start either of Arsenal’s 2-1 defeats by Everton and Manchester City which left Wenger’s men nine points behind all-conquering Premier League leaders Chelsea.

However, the France international was restored to Wenger’s starting line-up on Boxing Day and the move paid dividends after the striker netted a late winner at The Emirates.

Giroud managed to get on the end of Mesut Ozil’s cross to score on his first Premier League start of the 2016-17 season.

Speaking to BBC Sport after Arsenal’s 1-0 win against West Brom on Monday afternoon, Wenger was full of praise for Giroud in what has been a tough season for the centre-forward so far.

“It has been an interesting period for the player and these are important to see how they cope. It was a good reaction from him today,” Wenger said.
