Arsene Wenger makes honest admission about Arsenal ahead of Man City trip

Arsene Wenger admits that his Arsenal team failed to stick to the game-plan against Everton

Arsene Wenger admitted that Arsenal only have themselves to blame after the disappointment of their 2-1 loss to Everton on Tuesday night.

The Gunners took the lead at Goodison Park but were pegged back by goals in either half from the Toffees as Wenger’s men lost their first game in the Premier League since their opening-weekend defeat by Liverpool.

Arsenal do not have long to recover as they now turn their attentions towards their crunch Premier League clash against Manchester City on Sunday afternoon at The Etihad.

However, Wenger appeared to suggest that he was disappointed that his players did not properly execute the plans they set in place before Tuesday night’s game at Goodison Park.

Speaking to Arsenal Player after Tuesday’s game, Wenger said: “In football you have to defend well.

“We knew exactly what was happening and the first goal is exactly what we planned not to do.

“We have to look at ourselves tonight because we punished ourselves by not respecting completely the rules that we put out the night before we played.”

Arsenal are looking to win the Premier League title for the first time since their famous unbeaten triumph in the 2003-04 season.
