Arsene Wenger sends message to Arsenal fans amid speculation
Arsene Wenger insists that he is not letting the uncertainty surrounding his Arsenal future affect him
Arsene Wenger has insisted that the speculation about his Arsenal future beyond next summer will not affect him.
The Frenchman’s contract with the north London side is due to expire in the summer of 2017 and there has been no official announcement about a possible extension beyond next year.
Wenger has been in charge at Arsenal since 1996 and is the longest serving manager in the Premier League.
However, there have been questions about whether the Frenchman will extend his stay at The Emirates beyond next summer.
But despite the speculation about his future which is sure to continue in the coming weeks and months, Wenger insists that he is fully focused on helping Arsenal end this season on a high.
Speaking to Arsenal’s website before the Boxing Day clash against West Brom, Wenger said: “I always said that I will judge where I stand in spring and make my decisions then. And the club is free as well. It’s not because I am here a long time that I have any rights. We are both on the same boat.
“There are plenty of managers who [get to] the end of their contract. It happened to me before. I signed sometimes in March, April for longer contracts. So I don’t think it’s a problem.”
Arsenal finished second in the Premier League last season and have not won the title since their famous unbeaten triumph in the 2003-04 campaign.
