Arsene Wenger tells Arsenal fans to be patient with this player

Arsene Wenger has told Arsenal's fans to be patient with Carl Jenkinson following his return from injury

Arsene Wenger has told Arsenal fans not to expect too much from Carl Jenkinson too soon.

The right-back recently made his return to action from a serious knee injury after his loan spell at West Ham United was cut short last season.

Jenkinson was restored to the Gunners’ starting line-up when Arsenal played PSG in the Champions League last month after Hector Bellerin was ruled out of action for a number of weeks with an ankle injury.

The Englishman is slowly working his way back towards full fitness as he bids to add fresh competition at full-back for Wenger’s squad.

However, the Arsenal boss has warned fans against expecting too much from Jenkinson too soon following his lengthy lay-off.

Speaking in an interview with Arsenal’s media team before Wednesday’s EFL Cup clash with Southampton, Wenger said: “You forget that it’s a big ask. Carl is very conscientious and it takes him time to play completely with freedom.

“He needs a run of games to play with freedom, so the fact that he can get another game [against Southampton], I think we’ll already see a different Carl.”
