Ashley Cole reacts to Chelsea’s 1-0 win at Crystal Palace

Ashley Cole hails Chelsea's 1-0 win against Crystal Palace as a title-winning performance

Ashley Cole hailed Chelsea’s “championship performance” after Diego Costa scored a first-half winner to seal his side’s 11th successive Premier League win at Crystal Palace.

Alan Pardew’s outfit had the better of the first-half opportunities but Jason Puncheon couldn’t keep his attempt on target with the Chelsea defence out of position.

Spain international Costa made the breakthrough on the stroke of half-time with a close-range header after Cesar Azpilicueta’s precise cross.

Conte’s summer signing Marcos Alonso hit the woodwork from a free kick in the final 10 minutes at Selhurst Park as Chelsea looked to extend their lead.

Speaking to Sky Sports after Chelsea’s 11th successive Premier League win, Cole said:

“It was a championship performance. They didn’t score the goals that we thought but it was a great defensive performance. Everybody worked hard. At the end, they deserved the result.”

Costa has scored 13 goals in 17 Premier League appearances in the 2016-17 season so far.

Chelsea moved nine points clear of second-placed Liverpool ahead of the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park on Monday night.

The Blues have won their last 11 Premier League games to hoist themselves to the top of the table after 17 fixtures.
