Chelsea don’t need to look far for a defender: This player would be ideal, declares Redknapp
Jamie Redknapp says Nathan Ake could be the man to solve Chelsea's search for a new defender
Nathan Ake could be the solution to Chelsea’s search for a left-sided defender, according to Jamie Redknapp.
The 21-year-old is currently on loan to Bournemouth from Chelsea and has been earning plenty of praise for his performances for Eddie Howe’s men this season.
Ake has stared each of Bournemouth’s last three games in the Premier League – including the clashes with Arsenal and Liverpool.
The defender has been in impressive form and scored the winner in Bournemouth’s dramatic 4-3 comeback win over Liverpool at the Vitality Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Former Liverpool midfielder Redknapp feels that Chelsea are still on the lookout for a new left-sided defender, but he says that Ake could be the man to step in at the end of the season.
Redknapp told The Daily Mail: “Chelsea are crying out for a left-sided centre back.
“Gary Cahill has done well there this season but the position does not come naturally to him.
“Chelsea may go out and buy someone like Giorgio Chiellini but they could have a long-term solution on their books in Ake.
“The Dutchman is tenacious, has a good left foot and is brilliant in the air, despite only being 5ft 11in. He is a real athlete and covers ground well.”
Chelsea are currently flying high at the top of the Premier League table after a strong start to the season under new manager Antonio Conte.
The Blues finished 10th and without a trophy last term.
