Chelsea legend tells Man United fans: Jose Mourinho is still a top manager

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink defends Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho

Jose Mourinho is still a top manager despite his slow start at Manchester United, according to Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.

The Red Devils appointed the Portuguese coach as their new manager in May after Louis van Gaal led the 20-time English champions to a fifth-place finish last term.

Mourinho guided Manchester United to three successive Premier League victories to start the 2016-17 season in style but they have struggled to maintain their good opening form.

In fact, Manchester United have only managed to win two of their last 11 top-flight games to leave Mourinho’s side well off the pace in the title race.

The Red Devils are already nine points adrift of fourth-placed Manchester City as they look to avoid a two-year absence from the Champions League.

Speaking to Sky Sports News HQ, Hasselbaink defended Mourinho after recent criticism of the Manchester United manager.

“I think Jose Mourinho is a top, top manager. Look what he has done in the past,” Hasselbaink said.

“If you analyse every game, they have been very very close. It has been certain moments going against them. In the past, they’ve been going for them. He just needs to stick at it and he will get the results.”

The Red Devils are in sixth place and 13 points behind Premier League leaders Chelsea.
