Chelsea legend: The squad is very strong, this is the only weakness
Ray Wilkins discusses the strength of Chelsea's squad ahead of their clash with West Brom
Ray Wilkins feels that the only weakness in Chelsea’s squad is a lack of strikers.
The Blues have made a stunning start to the season under new boss Antonio Conte following his appointment as the club’s new manager back in the summer.
Chelsea have won their last eight games in the Premier League to leave them top of the table and three points clear of Arsenal after 14 matches of the new campaign.
Their form is in stark contrast to their struggles last season, when they ended up 10th in the table and without a trophy after a campaign to forget.
Chelsea are currently gearing up for their Premier League clash against West Brom at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.
And Wilkins believes that Chelsea have one of the strongest squads in the Premier League.
Speaking to Sky Sports News HQ on Wednesday morning, Wilkins said: “Chelsea’s squad is very strong right across the board, but you would concede that they are so reliant on the forward areas and what I would say is that they do not have another recognised centre forward other than Diego Costa.
“They can play with all these smaller guys and play Hazard through the middle and Michy Batshuayi has come for £30m and we haven’t really seen him yet. Of course, there are lots of youngsters out on loan which is another issue. But if they were to lose Costa that would be a massive, massive blow.
“But I still feel Chelsea have the most solid, resilient squad.”
Chelsea were 3-1 winners at Manchester City in their most recent Premier League games.
