Chelsea linked with January bid for highly-rated defender – report
Chelsea and Manchester City could be set for a transfer battle for the signature of Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk, say reports
Chelsea and Manchester City could be set for a January transfer battle for the signature of Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk, according to reports in the British media.
The Daily Mail is claiming that Manchester City were prepared to wait until next summer before bidding for the player, but Chelsea’s apparent interest could force the Citizens into a January move.
The same article states that Van Dijk is valued at £55m by his current club Southampton as the January transfer window draws ever nearer.
The report says that Manchester City are reluctant to make any moves in the January window but would be ready to act should Chelsea begin to compete for Van Dijk’s signature.
Chelsea are currently flying high at the top of the Premier League table ahead of their crunch clash with Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane on Wednesday night in the top flight.
The Blues finished 10th and without a trophy after a season to forget for the west London side.
