Chelsea manager Antonio Conte sends message to Tottenham
The Chelsea manager talks up Tottenham Hotspur after his side's 2-1 win in the London derby last weekend
Antonio Conte says Chelsea have done well to put a seven-point gap between them and title rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
Spurs became the first Premier League team to score against the Blues since September last weekend after Christian Eriksen’s powerful finish broke the deadlock at Stamford Bridge.
However, Chelsea duo Pedro Rodriguez and Victor Moses cancelled out Eriksen’s goal to seal a 2-1 victory over Spurs and maintain the west London side’s seven-game winning run.
The Blues are a point clear of Liverpool and Manchester City in the title race and three points ahead of London rivals Arsenal.
Tottenham have only managed to win one of their last five Premier League games to leave Mauricio Pochettino’s side seven points off the pace.
However, Conte has spoken in glowing terms about their north London rivals ahead of Chelsea’s trip to title rivals Manchester City on Saturday.
“The first half against Tottenham was very difficult but usually when you have this you can learn a lot,” Conte told his pre-match media conference.
“This week we studied a lot our first half. I think that I showed the situation in the future. But it’s important also to understand that in the last game we played against a top team. Tottenham is a top team with a great squad and a great manager. To see Tottenham seven points behind us is a great achievement for us.”
Chelsea have only lost to title rivals Arsenal and Liverpool in the Premier League this season.
