Paul Merson states his prediction for Chelsea v Bournemouth

Paul Merson tips Chelsea to secure the three points against Bournemouth on Boxing Day

Paul Merson is tipping Chelsea to edge to victory over Bournemouth on Boxing Day and keep their place at the top of the Premier League table.

The Blues have been the Premier League’s standout performers this season and have won their last 11 games in the top flight to firmly establish themselves as the favourites to win the title.

The west London side, however, will be without key men Diego Costa and N’Golo Kante on Boxing Day due to suspension as the west London side look to continue their fine run.

However, former Arsenal star Merson is backing Chelsea to pick up the three points when they host Eddie How’s men at Stamford Bridge on Monday.

Writing in his column for Sky Sports, Merson said: “If there were two players Chelsea would least like to play without, it would be Diego Costa and N’Golo Kante.

“That’s what they’re faced with against Bournemouth, but I still think they will be too strong.

“You’re never too sure about Bournemouth: one minute they’re getting slaughtered by Southampton at home and then before that they beat Liverpool and Leicester. Costa and Kante will be missed but Chelsea have picked up the habit of winning games.”

Chelsea’s fine form this season has been in stark contrast to their struggles last term, when they finished 10th and without a trophy in the Premier League.
