Mark Lawrenson states prediction for Crystal Palace v Man United
The Liverpool legend is confident Manchester United will beat Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Wednesday night
Mark Lawrenson is backing Manchester United to record back-to-back Premier League victories when the Red Devils make the trip to Crystal Palace on Wednesday night.
The 20-time English champions kick-started their top-four bid with a 1-0 victory over rivals Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan impressed on his third Premier League start as the Armenia international scored a first-half winner against the north London side.
The Red Devils are six points adrift of fourth-placed Manchester City after the Citizens lost 4-2 to defending champions Leicester City on Saturday evening.
Former Liverpool defender Lawrenson is confident Mourinho’s steadily improving Manchester United side can secure three points at the home of Crystal Palace.
“I was at Old Trafford on Sunday to see Manchester United beat Tottenham and Jose Mourinho’s side look a much better team with Henrikh Mkhitaryan playing,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport.
“United had a good base at the back and their formation at times was like a 4-1-4-1, with Michael Carrick in front of the back four and Anthony Martial, Paul Pogba, Ander Herrera and Mkhitaryan further forward.
“Mkhitaryan in particular looked very classy and it is very good news for United that the injury he picked up against Spurs is not serious, and he will be back in action soon.
“Palace are still not having any problems scoring goals but they are vulnerable at the back and I think United will have too much for them.”
Manchester United finished in fifth place in the Premier League table last season, prompting the club to sack Louis van Gaal and to appoint Mourinho.
The Red Devils did win the FA Cup after a 2-1 extra-time victory over Alan Pardew’s Crystal Palace outfit at Wembley in May.
