Danny Murphy makes exciting claim about Liverpool in the title race

The former Liverpool midfielder believes Jurgen Klopp's side can win the Premier League title

Danny Murphy says he is confident that Liverpool can win the Premier League title this season.

The Reds have established themselves as one of the title contenders in what has been an enthralling 2016-17 season so far.

Chelsea moved nine points clear of Liverpool last weekend thanks to Diego Costa’s headed winner in a 1-0 victory at Crystal Palace in their London derby.

However, Liverpool moved to within six points of Antonio Conte’s side after a dramatic derby win of their own at Goodison Park on Monday night.

The Reds secured three points after Sadio Mane scored a winner in the fourth minute of added time to seal a 1-0 win against Ronald Koeman’s side.

Liverpool have already beaten title rivals Arsenal and Chelsea this season, while Klopp’s men played out stalemates with Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United.

Writing in his Evening Standard column, Murphy delivered his verdict on Liverpool’s title prospects ahead of their home clash against Stoke City at Anfield on Tuesday evening.

“If Liverpool can keep the majority of their best players fit, they are capable of winning the title this season. I didn’t expect them to be in this race but Jurgen Klopp has his team playing with a level of confidence, energy and fitness that is hard to achieve,” Murphy said.

“Whether they can stay there year after year, though, is another matter. I’m not aware of Liverpool’s exact financial position but if Manchester City decide to spend again next summer, who knows what kind of players they might bring in? If they follow that path, it will be hard for other clubs to keep up.”
