Danny Murphy tells Tottenham to make this signing in January transfer window

The former Tottenham midfielder discusses where Mauricio Pochettino needs to improve his Spurs squad

Tottenham Hotspur need to sign a creative midfielder in the January transfer window, according to Danny Murphy.

The north London side were 3-0 winners against Hull City on Wednesday night after Christian Eriksen scored twice at White Hart Lane to continue his excellent run of form in Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

The Denmark international has now scored five goals and has made two assists in his last five Premier League games to silence his critics following an initially slow start to the 2016-17 season.

Tottenham have only lost two Premier League games in the current campaign following defeats by title rivals Chelsea and Manchester United in recent weeks.

Former Spurs midfielder Murphy believes Pochettino could do with some depth in his attacking positions ahead of the January transfer window despite Eriksen’s impressive performances in recent weeks.

“Christian Eriksen is starting to deliver again for Tottenham. He is a super player but earlier in the season, he was not producing enough for the quality he has,” Murphy told Evening Standard.

“It is changing now. He scored twice against Hull and Swansea. There was the great strike at Chelsea and suddenly, he has five goals and four assists for the campaign.

“I still feel Spurs would benefit from adding another creative player but how do they find someone better than what they have, especially in January?”

Tottenham signed five players in the summer transfer window as Pochettino looked to bolster his squad.

Spurs finished in third place in the Premier League table last season.
