Danny Murphy: Why I haven’t changed my mind about Chelsea in the title race
The former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder is backing Chelsea to win the Premier League title this season
Danny Murphy believes Chelsea’s squad depth makes Antonio Conte’s side clear favourites to win the Premier League title this season.
The Blues have been in imperious form in recent months in the English top flight after a run of ten successive victories heading into the final weekend before Christmas Day.
Conte’s side have managed to continue their winning run despite Nemanja Matic’s recent injury problems after Cesc Fabregas effortlessly slotted into the Chelsea first-team.
In fact, the Spain international scored a first-half winner to seal Chelsea’s 1-0 win against the Premier League’s basement club Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Wednesday night.
Chelsea have beaten title rivals Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City in recent months to underline their status as genuine contenders for the top-flight crown.
Former Liverpool and Tottenham midfielder Murphy is backing the west London side to win the Premier League crown this term after tipping Conte’s men at the start of the 2016-17 season.
“I tipped Chelsea for the title at the start of the season and I continue to be impressed by the quality they have in depth,” Murphy told Evening Standard.
“They were without Eden Hazard and Nemanja Matic at Sunderland but were able to bring in Willian and Cesc Fabregas. How many other clubs around the world would be able to do that?”
