David Luiz appears to drop hint over Chelsea role
The Chelsea signing is ready to have more of a leadership role at Stamford Bridge
David Luiz has appeared to drop a big hint that he is hoping to become a future Chelsea captain.
The Brazil international has enjoyed a successful return to the west London outfit after the versatile defender moved to Stamford Bridge in a £32m deal from Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain on the final day of the summer transfer window.
Luiz initially struggled upon his return to the Chelsea side after Antonio Conte’s side lost to title rivals Liverpool and Arsenal in the Premier League in September.
However, the South American helped Chelsea to win their subsequent nine Premier League games, capped by the 1-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion on Sunday afternoon.
Chelsea have managed to keep seven clean sheets during that nine-game winning run, leading to praise for Luiz and his defensive colleagues.
And Luiz is hoping to embrace even more of a leadership role in the future at Stamford Bridge as he continues to keep captain John Terry out of the starting line-up.
“When you get older, you want to organise your bedroom more than when you are young, no?” Luiz told London Evening Standard.
“It’s quite like this, just part of getting older.”
